Viking harriers heading to regional

The Huntington North High School boys’ cross country earned a trip to regional next week by placing third at the Marion Boys’ Cross Country Sectional at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Senior Brock Spahr led the way for HNHS with a third place individual finish in 17:05.9. That paced HNHS to 80 points to finish among the top five qualifying teams.

Wabash won the meet with 37 points, followed by Oak Hill with 56 points. Eastbrook took fourth with 133 points and Mississinewa got the last spot with 149 points among the 11 teams at sectional.

Regional is next Saturday, Oct. 13, again at IWU.

Drew Davis was second man for HNHS with 13th place among scoring runners, crossing the finish line in 18:08.1. Isaiah Clampitt placed 15th in 18:17.8, Harrison Niswander was 23rd in 18:36.3 and Alexander Bishop took 26th in 18:43.1.

Completing the HNHS squad were Connor Miller, 28th in 18:50.7, and Jarid Miller, 32nd in 18:57.9.

Brennan Butche of Mississinewa was the individual champion in 16:07.3, beating runner-up Braden Sweet of Southwood by more than 45 seconds.

The top 10 individual finishers whose team did not advance also move on to regional.
