Spahr, Vike harriers third at NE8 meet

Brock Spahr captured third place to lead the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity cross country team to the same placement at the Northeast 8 Conference championship meet on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Huntington University Cross Country Course.

Spahr, a senior, crossed the finish line in 16:28.7 for his bronze placement. Freshman Harrison Niswander took 18th place, stepping over the end stripe in 17:16.4. Junior Isaiah Clampitt and senior Drew Davis, finished back to back, with the former placing 21st in 17:22.7 and the latter 22nd in 17:33.5. Senior Jarid Miller capped the team’s score, finishing 26th in 17:41.4.

Senior Alex Bishop attained 37th in 18:14.0 while sophomore Connor Miller took 41st in 18:27.6 to round out Huntington North’s day.

Columbia City junior Landon Wakeman won the race, stepping over the end stripe in 16:18.1.

Bellmont claimed the conference title, posting a score of 62. Columbia City was second with a tally of 78, followed by Huntington North, 90; New Haven, 108; DeKalb, 117; Leo, 131; East Noble, 133; and Norwell, 175.

The Vikings also finished third in the junior varsity race, tallying 98 points.

Freshman JT York led Huntington North, taking third in 18:03.5. Freshman Gavin Byerly was 10th in 18:48.2, followed by junior Clayton Johnson, 19th in 19:17.9; freshman Dane Blackburn, 35th in 19:54.2; and junior Nate Burns, 55th in 21:05.4.

Also running for the Vikes was freshman James Ormiston, 58th in 21:27.4; junior Greg Kelsey, 66th in 22:28.2; and freshman Craig Ingram, 71st in 23:15.0.

Bellmont dominated the race with a score of 20, which was over 50 points better than runner-up East Noble.
