The Huntington North High School softball team lost the championship game of the Homestead Sectional to host Homestead, 6-2, on Thursday, May 24.

The Lady Vikings and Lady Spartans were deadlocked at 1-1 through the first three innings. In the fourth frame, however, Homestead pulled away, pushing across three runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Lady Spartans then cushioned their advantage with solo tallies in the tops of the sixth and seventh innings. Coach Paris Seibold’s squad logged a solo tally of its own in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all it could muster.

Huntington North, 14-12, was paced at the plate by freshman Sophie Eckert, who produced two hits and a run batted in. Senior Alyssa Voght logged two hits while sophomore Kodi Douglass registered a hit and the team’s other RBI. The squad finished with eight hits overall.

Kendra Arnold took the loss for the Lady Vikings in the circle. The senior hurler yielded 11 hits and six runs, four of which were earned, in seven innings. She struck out one and walked two.

With the win, Homestead improves to 21-3 and advances to the Leo Regional.
