Koch to finish career at state track meet

Senior Karmen Koch will finish her track career at the Indiana state Track Championships next week in Bloomington as she qualified for the big show with a second place finish in the 300-meter hurdles at the Marion Girls’ Track Regional on Tuesday, May 22.

Koch sped across the finish line in :46.32 to grab runner-up honors to Dylan Kirkwood of Fort Wayne Northrop, who won the race in :45.58. The top three finishers in each race qualify for state.

Although not headed to state in the 100-meter hurdles, Koch scored fifth place points for the Lady Vikings in the event, crossing the tape in :15.37.

Huntington North also got a fifth place finish from its 1,600-meter relay team, and got seventh place points from Chloe Scheiber in the 3,200-meter run and senior Tabi Smith in the discus. The relay team clocked in at 4:10.57, while Scheiber came home in 11:14.40. Smith heaved the disc 110-10.

The Lady Vikes scored 27 points as a team. Northrop won the team title with 86 points.
