New Haven edges Vikings in nine innings

Host New Haven pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge the Huntington North High School baseball team, 4-3, on Tuesday, May 15.

Losing their second straight game, the Vikings, 21-3, rallied from a 3-0 deficit after thee innings to tie the score at 3-all after six. The score remained knotted until New Haven had three straight singles against reliever Zach Daugherty in the bottom of the ninth.

Keegan Bartrom and Logan Moreland had RBI hits in the Vikings’ sixth to tie the score, and Bartrom also knocked in the Vikings’ first run of the game, which came in the fourth inning, on the way to a 3 for 3 effort at the plate.

Trey Williams had two hits for the Vikes, who finished with 10 for the contest.

Williams went the first five innings on the hill for the Vikes, yielding three earned runs on two hits, with one strikeout and three walks. Daugherty pitched three hitless innings prior to the ninth.

New Haven, 14-9, had only five hits in the contest.
