Chargers break Vikes' 19-game win string

The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team had its 19-game win string broken on Monday, May 14, as it fell to host Fort Wayne Carroll, 7-2.

Carroll, 16-7, beat up Viking starter Gage Sandlin for six earned runs in three innings of work, getting the knockout punch in a four-run fourth inning that decided the contest. Carroll scored a solo run in the first inning, but HNHS put up a two-spot in the third to take a short-lived 2-1 lead. Carroll came back with its own two-spot in the bottom of the frame for a 3-2 lead before getting the four runs in the fourth.

HNHS is now 21-2 on the season.

Ian McCutcheon and Elliott Lesperance each had a pair of hits to lead the Vikings’ seven-hit attack. McCutcheon had an RBI as well.

Levi Bennett recorded three innings on the hill for HNHS, giving up one earned runs on two hits, with one strikeout and two walks.
