Doubles sweep pushes Lady Vike netgirls past South Adams

Sweeping doubles play lifted the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity tennis team to a 3-2 victory over host South Adams on Friday, May 11.

The junior duo of Macy Wohlford and Jule Nogaj and senior pairing of Braxtyn Maroney and Leann Ringenberg posted those wins for the Lady Vikings, 12-4. Wohlford and Nogaj, at first doubles, dispatched Breanna Potts and Jade Farlow, 6-0, 6-2. In the second contest, Maroney and Ringenberg rebounded from a 2-6 defeat in the opening set with victories of 6-3, 6-1 to take the match.

A 6-0, 6-2 triumph by junior Jessica Henline over Haley Gerber at first singles rounded out the team’s wins.

Senior Tarah Zumbrun went three sets at No. 3 singles for Huntington North before ultimately succumbing to Hannah Dull. Zumbrun started things off with a 6-2 victory, but then fell 4-6, 1-6 to lose the match. At second singles, senior Kassidy Thompson lost her match to Julia Grabau, 5-7, 2-6.

Huntington North also won the junior varsity contest, 6-4.

The Lady Vikes, 10-6, got victories from the duos of Emily Bokel and Emily Daas, Sydney Smekens and Maisy Kesler, Crosley Stanley and Emma Bickel, Gabi Haneline and Julia Crist, Mary Young and Lindsey Hunt and Sami Seal and Kadija El-Hussein.
