Viking trackboys second at tri-meet

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity track team placed second at a tri-meet with Homestead and North Side on Thursday, May 10, at Kriegbaum Field.

A top-three sweep in the 3,200-meter run was the highlight of the meet for the Vikings, who finished with 52 points to Homestead’s 95 and North Side’s 20. Junior Brock Spahr ran away with the race for Huntington North, crossing the finish line in 9:57.1. Senior Aaron Hendryx placed second, clocking in at 10:01.0, while senior Nolan Young finished third, stopping the timer in 10:23.5.

The Vikings also placed well in high jump, with Ricky Haught claiming second and Mitchell Geller taking third. Haught, a junior, leapt 5-10, while Geller, a senior, cleared 5-08.

Drew Nash earned runner-up honors in the 200-meter dash. The junior stepped over the end stripe in :23.5.

Damon Kaylor put forth a pair of bronze efforts in the throwing events. The junior recorded a toss of 124-07 in discus and a heave of 43-11.00 in shot put.

Other top-three finishes in individual events for Huntington North came from sophomore Nate Burns, 300-meter hurdles, third in :41.4; junior Jacob Wust, 1,600-meter run, third in 4:47.9; and senior Kasey Konz, 400-meter dash, third in :54.4.
