Koch leads HNHS girls to sixth at Penn Invite

Karmen Koch won the 300-meter hurdles to lead the Huntington North High School girls’ track team to a sixth place finish at the Lady Kingsmen Invite at Penn on Saturday, April 21.

Koch, a senior, nipped Alexis Grider of Fort Wayne South Side by .1 to claim the 10 points for the Lady Vikings, crossing the finish line in :47.0.

HNHS earned 36 points for its sixth place. Penn won the 16-team invite with 90 points. Fort Wayne Northrop was second with 78, Homestead was third with 69, Carroll was fourth with 53 and Angola was fifth with 47.

Chloe Scheiber had the next-best production for HNHS with a second place in the 3,200-meter run, crossing the finish line in 11:21.68.

The Lady Vikes had two point-scorers in discus as Tabi Smith placed fourth with a throw of 111 feet and Amaya Torres was seventh with a toss of 106-1.

Koch added sixth place points for the Lady Vikes in the 100-meter hurdles, in :16.8, and the high jump, at 5-0. Amaya Sunderman took seventh in the shot put with a toss of 33-1.25, Hanna Whitney took eighth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:32.88, Veronika Russell took eighth in the pole vault at 8-6 and the 1,600-meter relay team of Allie Aschliman, Brooke Goodrich, Koch and Meg McDonald also placed eighth with a time of 4:28.8.
