Foresters get 'run-off' against Bethel

It was more a run-off than a walk-off for the Huntington University baseball team as senior Jamar Weaver scooted home on a passed ball in the ninth inning to give HU a 7-6 win over visiting Bethel College on Friday, April 20.

The win pushes the Foresters to 12-4 in Crossroads League play as they fight for the top spot.

HU pushed across a pair of runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-all. Weaver started off the ninth with a single before Adam Roser moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Pilot pitcher Eric Kelver issued an intentional pass and then an unintentional one around a pop out to load the bases and set up Weaver’s scoring scamper.

Former Huntington North star Alex McCutcheon got the win with two innings of hitless relief, striking out two while not issuing a walk.

Weaver, Tyler Zimske and Nick Davit each had a pair of hits, with Davit also knocking in two runs.

Bethel jumped off to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, beating up Forester starter Ryan Bethel for six earned runs on eight hits, with two strikeouts and three walks over 5.1 innings. Trent Lawson threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, yielding three hits with one strikeout and two walks.

The Foresters scored  a run in the bottom of the first, then got two more in the fourth and one in the sixth to put the score at 6-4 going into the seventh.
