The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity tennis team opened its season with a 4-1 rout of visiting Peru on Tuesday, April 10.

In singles play, senior Kassidy Thompson defeated Julia Wedcs in the second match, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), while junior Tarah Zumbrun dispatched Molly Gray in the third tilt, 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles actions saw the No. 1 duo of juniors Macy Wohlford and Jule Nogaj top Dani McCord and Marjon Rafie, 6-1, 6-2. At second doubles, the Lady Viking twosome of seniors Braxtyn Maroney and Leann Ringenberg dominated Madisyn Carrisco and Sophia Wheeler, 6-0, 6-1, to round out the team’s victories.

Huntington North’s lone loss of the match came at first singles, where junior Jessica Henline suffered a 6-4, 2-6, 4-6 setback to Claire Boyer.

The Lady Vikings dominated the junior varsity match, sweeping Peru, 5-0.

In singles action, junior Emma Bickel and sophomores Emily Daas and Maisy Kesler won their matches by matching scores of 8-0. In doubles play, the pairings of senior Katie Paolillo/junior Emily Bokel and junior Crosley Stanley/sophomore Sydney Smekens took their matches by scores of 8-0 and 6-0, respectively.
