IWU edges HU to end CL streak

Indiana Wesleyan University got the better of the Huntington University baseball team in a pitchers’ duel that resulted in a 1-0 defeat for the Foresters on Tuesday, April 10, at Forest Glen Park.

Huntington pitcher DJ Moore and IWU hurler Caleb Eder squared off over the game’s first seven innings. Of those frames, the first five saw both pitchers shut out the other side. In the top of the sixth inning, though, the Wildcats’ Jordan Wharton smacked a two-out double and plated what would prove to be the game’s only run.

Moore got saddled with the defeat for the Foresters. The junior, 2-4, yielded just four hits and the one earned run in his seven innings of work. He piled up 10 strikeouts while issuing four walks.

Eder, improving to 4-1, allowed just one hit in his seven frames on the mound. He fanned seven and walked two.

Sophomore Alex McCutcheon tossed the final two innings for Huntington, limiting IWU to a hit while notching two strikeouts.

The loss snaps the Foresters’ nine-game winning streak to open Crossroads League play. Overall, they slip to 11-13.

The Wildcats improve to 11-4 in conference, 25-12 overall.
