Senior Brooks Gerke broke a 25-year-old school record in the pole vault to highlight the performances of the Huntington University men’s and women’s track teams at the 27th annual Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Indiana Wesleyan on Friday, March 23.

Gerke cleared 4.60 meters -- 15-1.125 feet to top Mark Green’s 1993 mark of 15 feet in the vault, which earned him a ticket to the 2018 NAIA National Championship meet as well.

Gerke had previously held the No. 5 spot in the HU record for the vault.

The Foresters took a pair of firsts in the sprints, with Avniel Barrow winning the 100-meter dash in :11.07 and Peyton Depriest taking the 200-meter dash in :22.39. Barrow placed second in the 200.

Depriest became just the fifth Forester in program history to duck under 50 seconds in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at :49.84.

Bradey Gerke placed fourth in triple jump with a mark of 12.4 meters.

Nicole Pennington logged the HU women’s only top-five finish by claiming third place in the 100 meters at :12.83.
