HU baseball team drops pair at tourney Saturday

The Huntington University baseball team dropped both games it played on Saturday, March 10, at the Clayton Pfeiffer Memorial Classic in St. Louis, losing the first game to Missouri Baptist, 7-1 and then falling to College of the Ozarks, 8-6.

It looked like the Foresters, 2-12, were on their way to a split as they led the second contest against Ozarks, 6-3, in the sixth inning, but the Cats put up a five-spot in the frame to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Donovan Clark and Daniel Lichty each banged out three hits and Jamar Weaver had two to lead a 12-hit HU attack in the second contest.

Tarrin Beachy got stuck with the loss, pitching one inning and yielding three hits and two earned runs, with one strikeout. Colton Punches went the first four frames, yielding six hits and two earned runs with one walk, and Alex McCutcheon went one inning and gave up three earned runs on two hits, with a strikeout and two walks.

The first game was all Missouri Baptist. MB pushed across a run in the first inning, two more in the third and four in the fourth, while HU could only manage to sneak across a single run in the fourth inning.

Nick Davidt and Jake Hansen each had two hits to lead to HU offense.

D.J. Moore took the loss on the hill, going all six inning and yielding five earned runs on six hits, with five strikeouts and three walks.
