Aschliman improves time but doesn't make state swim finals

Huntington North High School sophomore Allie Aschliman improved her time but did not advance to the finals at the Indiana State Girls Swimming/Diving Championship at Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 9.

Aschliman, who won the Warsaw sectional in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.67, lowered her mark to 1:00.93 in the Friday preliminaries, but all that got her was 29th place among the 32 girls competing in the event.

The top 16 swimmers from Friday night advanced on to swim Saturday at the IUPUI Natatorium, with the top eight competing for the state crown and the next eight competing in the consolation finals.

Kelly Pash, a junior from Carmel, won the state crown with a clocking of :48.59 in the finals. Elsa Fretz, a freshman from Northridge, was second in :49.64, and Julia Wolf, a senior from Bloomington South, was third in :50.81.
