Viking matmen send 7 to regional, 4 as champions

Led by four champions, the Huntington North High School wrestling team advanced seven individuals to next week’s regional at the Carroll Wrestling Sectional on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Freshman Preston Teusch at 106 pounds, senior Jacob Hall at 126, junior Ricky Haught at 132 and junior Charlie Agnew will return to Carroll next week for regional as sectional champions, and will be joined by teammates Darryn Kuhl at 113, Christian Graft at 220 and Trent Smith at heavyweight, who also finished in the top four to earn the advancement.

Graft was runner-up and both Kuhl and Smith finished fourth.

The Vikings finished third among 10 teams competing, piling up 149.5 points. Carroll won the meet with 240 points, followed by Garrett with 225.5.

Teusch heads into regional with a record of 28-4, Hall stands at 34-5, Haught is at 32-6 and Agnew is at 31-7.

Graft, a junior, has a record of 24-15. Kuhl, a sophomore, stands at 30-8 and Smith, a sophomore, is at 4-21.

Adrein George placed fifth for HNHS at 160 pounds, and Kaleb McVoy at 152 placed sixth.

Eastside was a tick behind North in fourth place with 144.5 points. Bishop Dwenger placed fifth with 112 points, Columbia City was sixth with 104.5, Churubusco took seventh with 100, Fort Wayne Northrop was eighth with 52, Concordia Lutheran was ninth with 51 and Whitko placed 10th with six points.
