Second-ranked Cougars drop HU men

The Huntington University men’s basketball team fell to host University of Saint Francis, 81-71, on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

After playing even with the second-ranked Cougars through the first half, 30-30, the Foresters got outscored by 10 in the second stanza to get hung with the loss, their seventh in a row.

Huntington, 6-13, 2-5 in Crossroads League play, was paced by senior Mike Bush, who scored a game-high 23 points. Junior Tyler Arens chipped in 17 points to the team’s cause.

The Foresters went 27 of 56 from the field for 48.2 percent and 9 of 10 at the free-throw line for 90 percent.

USF, 17-2, 7-0 in conference, was led by former Huntington standout Derek Hinen. The senior, who transferred from HU after the 2015-16 season, tallied 22 points. The hosts also got 21 points from Bryce Lienhoop and 14 points from Connor Lautzenheiser.

The Cougars converted 31 of 52 field goal attempts for 59.6 percent and 15 of 19 freebie opportunities for 78.9 percent.
