No. 16 SAU defeats Foresters, 78-65

Sixteenth-ranked Spring Arbor University downed the visiting Huntington University men’s basketball team, 78-65, on Saturday, Jan. 6.

HU, 6-12 on the season and 2-4 in the Crossroads League, found itself on the short end of a 41-31 halftime score, and SAU never looked back on the way to its 16th win in 18 outings this season.

Tyler Arens and Konner Platt led HU with 14 points apiece. Trevor Lockwood added nine points.

Pual Marandet led SAU with game-highs of 24 points and nine assists. Zach Medendorp fired in 12 points.

The Foresters hit only 23 of 56 shots from the field for 41.1 percent and hurt themselves further by hitting only 13 of 24 free throws for 54.2 percent.

The Cougars banged in 32 of 66 shots from the field for 48.5 percent and notched 9 of 15 free throw tries for 60 percent.

SAU beat HU off the boards as well, 43-33, with Jeff Beckman grabbing 13 caroms.

Lockwood led HU with six rebounds. Platt led in assists with three.
