HNHS gymnasts open with close loss

The Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team opened up its season with a narrow loss to host DeKalb, 101.7-98.5.

Aleah Eckert posted the Lady Vikings’ lone win of the evening. The sophomore triumphed in the floor exercise, posting a score of 8.9.

Brianna Bates claimed third on floor, which was one of three podium efforts she put forth at the meet. The senior earned her bronze on floor with a score of 8.5, which tied her with teammate Laora Pampaloni. Bates also tied with Pampaloni on vault as each gymnast logged a score of 9.0, good for third.

Bates’ best finish came on the uneven bars, where she earned runner-up honors with a 7.9.

Bates took third in the all-around competition with a register of 32.6. Senior Danielle Korporal slotted fourth in the all-around with a tally of 32.5.
