County wrestling club to hold 2 callout meetings

The Huntington County Wrestling Club will hold call-out meetings on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Crestview Middle School, in Huntington, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The club is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Registrations will be accepted at the meetings. There is a fee to register, which is paid through the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s website, Club leaders will assist attendees with the registration process.

If children want to join the club, but are unable to attend the meetings, Club Organizer Neil Teusch says not to fret.

“Anybody can join at any time,” he states.

Registrations will continue to be accepted on days the club holds practice. Practice days for the club are tentatively Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Crestview. Practices will commence on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

In addition to Teusch, club leaders include Richard Huffman, George Markou and Christian Norris. Markou and Norris are new to the club this year, notes Teusch.

Events the club will participate in include friendship meets during the week, plus weekend tournaments, of which the majority will be on Sunday. The club’s season will wrap up in early March.

Teusch’s hope for the club is that it instills an interest in wrestling in the minds of its young participants.

“It’s there to introduce it to young kids, the sport of wrestling, and to give them a chance to try it out, with hopes that they come out for the middle school and then eventually the high school team,” he says.
