Lady Vikes hang tough, but finally fall to 10-2 Marion

Host Marion took control in the final minutes of the game to down the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team, 56-50, on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The Lady Vikes, 5-6, battled the 10-2 Lady Giants even through the first three quarters, leading by a single point at 39-38 heading into the final frame.

Rileigh Johnson had 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings, while Hollyn Anderson added 13 points and Maddy Robrock added 12.

Marion was led by Jazmyn Turner with 22 points and Rashaya Kyle with 17.

Huntington North stayed close despite being outshot. Marion clicked on 26 of 46 hosts from the field for 52.1 percent while the Lady Vikings hit 18 of 47 shots for 38.3 percent. The hosts hit 7 of 11 shots from the free-throw line for 63.6 percent and the Lady Vikes hit 10 of 17 from the stripe for 58.8 percent.

Robrock aided the Lady Vikes’ cause with eight rebounds. Anderson led in assists with four, and Johnson and Karmen Koch each chipped in three. Koch added three steals.

HNHS won the junior varsity contest, 39-27.

Kateleyn Arnold led the JV, 6-5, with 10 points. Grace Gross added eight and Bayleigh Double had seven.
