Defense key as Viking cagers get second win

Limiting host Mississinewa to just seven points in the middle two periods, the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team got a 36-30 win on Saturday, Nov. 25, to go to 2-0 on the young season.

The Viking defense limited Mississinewa, 1-1, to only 15 points through the first three quarters, taking  a 22-15 lead into the final frame.

The Vikings were led by Zach Daugherty with 11 points and Mitch Geller with eight.

HNHS hit 11 of 24 shots from the field for 45.8 percent and hit 10 of 17 free throws for 58.8 percent. The Indians hit 11 of 38 from the field for 28.9 percent and 6 of 13 from the stripe for 46.2 percent.

Sawyer Stoltz led the Vikings on the boards with six rebounds. Geller added five.

Anthony Horton had a game-high 12 points to lead Mississinewa.

The Vikings also captured the junior varsity contest, 36-33.

Jordan Hollowell and Adam Zahn led HNHS with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
