Lady Vikes hold off Snider in season-opener

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team held off a fourth quarter rally by host Fort Wayne Snider and hung on for a 51-49 win in the HNHS season-opener on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The Lady Vikings went into the final quarter with a 42-28 lead, but the hosts outscored HNHS 21-9 in the frame put the game in doubt until the final buzzer.

Junior Maddy Robrock led the way for North with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Rileigh Johnson added 12 points and seven rebounds and Karmen Koch netted 13 points and had three assists.

Hollyn Anderson had five assists.

The Lady Vikes connected on 13 of 20 shots from the field for 65 percent, including hitting 4 of 8 from three-point range for 50 percent. They also notched 13 of 18 free throw tries for 72.2 percent.

Snider was paced by Da’Leisha Davis with a game high 19 points. Hannah Barnes added 11.

The hosts hit 11 of 19 field goal tries for 57.9 percent and went 12 of 15 at the line for 80 percent.

The Lady Vikes took a 15-11 lead after the first quarter of play and upped the margin to 27-22 by halftime.

The Lady Vikes also took the junior varsity tilt, winning 41-17.

Reece Colclesser tossed in nine points and Meg McDoanld notched eight.
