The season came to an end for the Huntington North High School girls’ soccer team with a 3-2 loss to Warsaw in overtime of the South Side Sectional championship game on Saturday, Oct. 7.

After a scoreless opening half, Huntington North senior Hannah Tillett tallied the game’s first goal a little over a minute into the second. Warsaw sophomore Brenna Buhrt countered at the 27:03 mark to deadlock the game at 1-1, but Tillett responded less than two minutes later, putting the Lady Vikings back on top, 2-1. Buhrt came through for the Lady Tigers once more, though, scoring at the 16:49 mark to forge a 2-2 tie that would force overtime.

In the first overtime period, Buhrt scored her third goal of the evening at the 4:01 mark. That tally would prove to be the game-winner after Huntington North was unable to net the equalizing ball in that bonus frame or the one that followed.

The Lady Vikings finish the year with 16 wins against two losses.

Kodi Douglass took the loss in goal for Huntington North. The sophomore went the distance between the pipes, conceding the three Buhrt goals while making 10 stops.

Senior Karmen Koch registered an assist on one of Tillett’s goals. With the pair of scores, Tillett finishes with 45 for the season and 112 for her Huntington North career, which is the program record. She also goes out as the Lady Vikings’ all-time assists leader, with 98.
