HU women netters top Marian for first time in nine years to advance in CL Tourney

The Huntington University women’s tennis team beat Marian University for the first time in nine years on Thursday, Oct. 5, to advance to the finals of the Crossroads League Tennis Tournament.

The third seeded Foresters topped the second-seeded team, 5-3 to improve to 14-2 and advance to the final against Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The Foresters captured four singles matches after winning only one doubles match to get the “W.” Play was stopped after the winner was determined.

The victory marked the first time since 2008 that Huntington beat Marian.

Lisa Colling was a double winner for HU, topping Mary Mullaney at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-3, after she and Lanae Singleton beat Maria Luken and Anne Taylor, 8-2, at second doubles.

Constance Golz at first singles dropped Else Betscher, 6-3, 6-1; Meg Dolde at second singles defeated Lueken, 6-3, 6-4 and Anastasiia Evstifeeva at sixth singles beat Alex Griebling in three sets, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.

Singleton at third singles lost to Maria Sunga, 1-6, 1-6.

The first doubles team of Golz and Dolde lost to Betscher and Sunga, 4-8, and the third doubles team of Evstifeeva and Charlotte Seth lost to Mullaney and Emma Wood, 3-8.
