The Huntington North high School boys’ varsity soccer team hit all five penalty kicks in a shootout to squeeze past Fort Wayne Wayne, 2-1, on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Warsaw Soccer Sectional.

The Vikings turned a 1-0 first-half deficit into a 1-1 deadlock 46 seconds into the second half on a goal by senior Caleb Smith, and the score remained deadlocked that way after regulation and two overtime periods.

In order, Vikings Peyton Miller, Smith, Jacob Foster, Kasey Konz and Andrew Kaylor all scored with their kicks, with Kaylor’s being the clincher after Wayne had missed its first kick but got its next three.

The Vikings, 13-3-1 are scheduled to play Warsaw on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 5 p.m.

Viking goalie Sam Poling gave up the Wayne score with 5:13 remaining in the first half before Smith tied the contest with his 18th goal of the campaign.
