HU soccerwomen score twice in second half to beat Goshen

After a scoreless first half, the Huntington University women’s soccer team scored twice in the second to upend host Goshen College, 2-0, on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Junior Matea Knispel tallied the Foresters’ first goal at the 51:29 mark in the second stanza. Senior Brandi Spear then gave the visitors some breathing room with a score in the 88th minute. Freshman Madison Kidder assisted on the goal.

Knispel now has 11 goals on the season while Spear has eight. Those numbers lead the team.

Huntington, 5-4-1, 1-0 in Crossroads League play, hounded the Goshen defense all day until it finally broke in the second half. The Foresters racked up 23 shots, 10 of which were on goal. Spear accounted for half of those scoring looks while Knispel registered four.

Senior Paige Coolman recorded a complete-game shutout in goal for Huntington.

Goshen mustered only four shots for the game as it fell to 3-5-1, 0-1 in league action.

The Maple Leafs’ Katie Baer went the distance in goal, recording eight saves while allowing the two scores to take the loss.
