Scheiber leads Lady Vike harriers to sixth at New Haven Classic

Behind a top-10 finish by Chloe Scheiber, the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity cross country team captured sixth place out of 15 teams at the New Haven Classic on Saturday, Sept. 23, at The Plex North, in Fort Wayne.

Scheiber, a senior, claimed eighth place among team competitors, crossing the finish line in 19:25.25 for the Lady Vikings. Junior Alena Miller was the second finisher for Huntington North, placing 20th in 20:18.30. Freshman Hanna Whitney turned in a time of 21:02.52, good for 35th. Emma Melcher and Kyler Hoopingarner then capped the team’s score with back-to-back finishes. Melcher, a senior, took 52nd in 21:55.22 while Hoopingarner, a junior, secured 53rd in 21:55.25.

Senior Charlotte Borland earned 64th in 22:29.36 while sophomore Kendyl Coles attained 70th in 22:56.36 to round out the Lady Vikings’ top seven.

Carroll won the race with a register of 58. The Lady Chargers were led by top overall finisher Zoe Duffus, a freshman, who stepped over the end stripe in 18:13.33.

Bloomington South, with 84 points, placed second, followed by Bishop Dwenger, 123; Homestead, 137; East Noble, 137; Huntington North, 168; DeKalb, 204; and Mishawaka, 208.
