HU spikers make quick work of SAU

The Huntington University volleyball team made quick work of visiting Spring Arbor University, dispatching the Cougars in straight sets, 3-0, on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Foresters, 8-6, 3-1 in Crossroads League play, opened the match with a narrow 25-22 win before taking the following two sets by identical scores of 25-19 to record the sweep.

Seniors Josie Beaver and Danielle Gurwell spearheaded Huntington’s offensive attack with 12 kills apiece. Freshmen Breanna Metz and Lauren Cresse added nine and eight kills, respectively.

Senior Emily Hubby and junior Breanna Levings supported their efforts with 18 assists apiece.

Kate Cobb led a defensive effort that saw six Foresters log at least three digs. The senior registered 10 digs while senior Mikayla Carpenter notched seven.

Cresse chipped in on defense with four blocks, one of which was a solo.

Spring Arbor, 7-9, 1-3 in conference, got nine kills from Kasey Follis, 20 assists from Annica Stotz and seven digs apiece from Stotz and Emily Martin.
