Chesterman competes at Midwest Meet of Champions

Recent Huntington North High School graduate Elijah Chesterman competed in the 3,200-meter relay for the Indiana All-Star Team at the Midwest Meet of Champions on Saturday, June 10, at Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, OH.

The Midwest Meet of Champions is a competition featuring the top seniors from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Chesterman, a former member of the Huntington North boys’ track team, ran the relay’s anchor leg and posted a time of 1:54.71. His squad finished third in 7:43.34. The Michigan team won the race in 7:40.13 while the Ohio team took second in 7:41.82.

Chesterman’s teammates included Franklin Community’s Chandler McGaha, 1:56.04; Lafayette Jefferson’s Juan Tirado, 1:55.94; and Avon’s Madison King, 1:56.65.

Ohio won the boys' portion of the meet, tallying 179 points. Michigan finished second with 149 points, followed by Indiana with 147.

Chesterman earned all-state status in Indiana with his sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the Indiana state track and field finals on Friday, June 2, at Indiana University, in Bloomington. He clocked in at 1:54.92, which was a personal best and the second-fastest 800 in Huntington North history. The senior also competed in the 3,200 relay, crossing the finish line in 1:52.94 for the Vikings’ quartet, which placed 10th in 7:51.50.
