Faulkner silences big HU bats in tourney win; Foresters play elim game today

Huntington University's big bats were silenced by host Faulkner in a 3-0 loss on day two of the NAIA Opening Round baseball tournament.

HU drops into an elimination game today, Wednesday, May 17, at 2:30 against fifth-seeded Truett in the double-elimination tourney.

Faulkner starter Ivan Pelaez dominated the Foresters with only three hits and 15 strikeouts without a walk in 8.1 innings. His teammates got him all the support he needed with a solo run in the second, then they added insurance runs in the seventh and the ninth.

Forester starter D. J. Moore went the first 6.1 innings, yielding two runs, only one earned, on six hits, with a strikeout and walk, to get saddled with the loss. Will Coursen-Carr went 2.1 frames and gave up one earned run on three hits, with five strikeouts and no walks, and Tarrin Beachy finished up with the final out.

HU is now 35-12 on the season.

Paolo Montezuma had three of the Eagles' nine hits.

Faulkner, which competed in the NAIA World Series last year, is 49-10 on the season.
