Wins in the two distance races and one in the weight events wasn't enough for the Huntington North High school boys' track team as it finished third in a three-way meet with host Fort Wayne North Side and Homestead on Thursday, May 11.
J.J. Whicker won the 1,600-meter run, Elijah Chesterman won the 3,200-meter run and Jared Coolman topped the shot put to help HNHS tally 49 points. North Side won the meet with 65 points and Homestead was runner-up with 53.
Whicker clocked in at 4:41.8 for his win, with teammate Jacob Wust third in 4:47.7. Chesterman led teammate Nolan Young across the finish line in the 3,200 in 10:22.1, with Young runner-up in 10:36.6.
Coolman won the shot with a heave of 46-11-.25, with teammate Andrew Kaylor third with a toss of 44-1.
Additional runner-up finishes for the Vikings came from Carson Bolinger in the 110-meter hurldes, in :16.8; Aaron Hendryx in the 800-meter run, in 2:06.4; Coolman in the discus, with a throw of 124-4.5; and Caleb Smith in the high jump at 5-10.
Among the bronze finishers for HNHS were Mark Hultz in the 110 hurdles, in :16.9; Smith in the 400-meter dash, :52.8; and Cody Jones in the 800, 2:06.5.
Isaac Brown tied the Huntington North freshman record in the 200-meter dash with a handheld time of :23.7, which converts to :23.94 electronic.
