The Huntington North High School varsity softball team rode a hot start to an 11-5 victory over visiting Columbia City on Wednesday, April 26.

The Lady Vikings, 8-4, scored three runs in each of the first three innings while holding the Lady Eagles to just three runs during that time to build a comfortable lead. Coach Paris Seibold’s squad added a pair of insurance tallies in the fifth while Columbia City scored once in the fifth and once more in the sixth to round out the game’s offense.

Ariene Butler highlighted Huntington North’s showing at the plate, finishing just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. The senior batted in a team-high four runs. Senior Mackenzi Cannici added three singles and as many runs batted in.

Hannah Middlebrooks smacked a home run and a single, plating two runners to aid her own cause in the circle. The senior pitched a complete game, yielding nine hits and five runs, only two of which were earned, while fanning one. She improves to 4-3.
