Mississinewa edges Lady Vikes SB

The Huntington North High School varsity softball team got edged by host Mississinewa, 7-6, on Saturday, April 22.

After the first inning, the Lady Vikings were in a 2-1 hole, which deepened to 5-1 when the Lady Indians pushed across three runs in the fourth. Coach Paris Seibold’s squad managed to plate five runners in the fifth, seizing the lead at 6-5, but the hosts countered with a solo tally in their half of the frame to knot things. Mississinewa then shut Huntington North out in the sixth while plating the go-ahead run and again blanked the Lady Vikes in the seventh to seal the narrow win.

Huntington North, 5-4, was paced at the plate by Laney Shaw. The freshman produced a double and three runs batted in. Senior Mackenzi Cannici logged two hits and as many RBI while speedy senior Ariene Butler belted a pair of triples and registered an RBI with two runs scored.

Senior Hannah Middlebrooks handled pitching duties for Huntington North, allowing nine hits and seven runs in six innings to sustain the loss. She walked three and struck out two.
