Late comeback by Lady Vikes falls short against Carroll
Thursday, April 20, 2017 4:01 PM
A late comeback attempt by the Huntington North High School varsity softball team fell short in a 7-6 loss to host Carroll on Wednesday, April 19.
Down 6-3 to the Lady Chargers going into the sixth inning, the Lady Vikings pushed three runs across to knot the game. Carroll, though, didn’t waste any time breaking the tie, plating one runner in its half of the frame before shutting out Huntington North in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
The Lady Vikings, 4-3, fell behind 3-1 in the first inning and trailed 4-2 after two and 4-3 after three before the Lady Chargers went up by three runs at the end of five.
Senior Aubrie Eckert paced the Huntington North offense with two hits, one of which was a home run, and three runs batted in. Senior Hannah Middlebrooks chipped in a dinger and a single, good for two RBI.
Middlebrooks handled pitching responsibilities for the Lady Vikes and yielded 12 hits and seven runs in as many innings to take the loss. She fanned four and walked three.
