Coolman scores best finishes for HNHS at North Side Relays

Senior Jared Coolman had the best placings of the day for the Huntington North High School boys' track team as it finished 12th out of 15 teams at the North Side Relays on Saturday, April 15.

Competing in "A" flight, Coolman took third in the shot put with a heave of 47-9 and fifth in the discus with a toss of 130-2.

The Vikings had three individuals score in "B" flight. Mitch McElhaney took fourth in the discus with a toss of 108-8, while Damon Kaylor place fifth in shot with  a heave of 42-1.5 and Jacob Wust was fifth in the 3,200-meter run at 10:22.34.

In relay events, the Vikings' 4,000-meter distance relay team placed fourth with a time of 12:15.09. Jackson Wright ran the 1,200-meter leg, Ralph Daeppen followed with a 400, Andrew Kaylor had an 800 and Jarid Miller did a 1,600.

The Vikings took fifth in both the 3,200-meter relay and the 800-meter relay. The longer relay recorded a time of 9:05.62 and was comprised of Isaac Brown, Garret Smith, Al Tirado and Nolan Hughes, while the shorter distance squad went 1:38.38 and was made up of Felix Benkel, Mark Hultz, Drew Nash and Hughes.

The 400-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams both garnered sixth place finishes. The shorter distance team went :46.35 and was made up of Nate Burns, Benkel, Stone Bowers and Nash. The longer distance squad went 3:44.09 and was made up of Kasey Konz, Nate Burns, Carson Bolinger and Nathan York.
