Sunday, April 16, 2017 11:54 AM
The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team dispatched visiting Wabash, 11-4, on Saturday, April 15.
After leading the Apaches by just a run, 3-2, at the end of three innings, the Vikings’ bats heated up in the ensuing frames. Coach Jared Hammel’s squad tallied three runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth and one in the sixth while limiting Wabash to only two scores in the fifth to record the lopsided win.
Huntington North, 4-3, was led by Ian McCutcheon, who went 3 for 3 at the plate with a trio of runs batted in and as many runs scored. Logan Moreland chipped in three hits and an RBI to the team’s offensive effort while Jarret Gray added two hits and an RBI.
Pat Miller picked up the win for the Vikings, yielding four hits and two earned runs in three innings while striking out five.
The Vikings finished with 10 hits for the game.
The Huntington North offense did half of its damage against Reece Samons, who tossed the first 3.2 innings for Wabash. During that time, he surrendered five hits and six earned runs to get saddled with the loss. He also notched five strikeouts and issued two walks.
Wabash, 2-5, was paced at the plate by Kaleb Kelsheimer, who smacked a two-run homer.
