Lady Vikes rally back to beat Woodlan on softball diamond
Friday, April 14, 2017 9:00 AM
With a seventh-inning rally, the Huntington North High School varsity softball team edged host Woodlan, 3-2, on Thursday, April 13.
Trailing 2-0 going into the final frame, the Lady Vikings started to turn the tide when Alyssa Voght drew a one-out walk and her pinch-runner, Sydney Selvage, swiped second. Faith Leist then doubled down the third base line to bring Selvage home. Jordyn Poulson followed that hit with an infield base poke before Ariene Butler smacked the ball to the shortstop, who erred on her throw to first, allowing both Poulson and Butler to score.
Hannah Middlebrooks protected Huntington North’s newfound lead in the bottom of the inning, striking out three of the four batters she faced to help the Lady Vikes escape with their third win against two losses.
Middlebrooks tossed the final five frames while Kendra Arnold threw the first two.
Poulson and Butler each finished 2 for 4 at the plate.
