HNHS netgirls trounce Southwood

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity tennis team trounced visiting Southwood, 4-1, on Wednesday, April 12.

The Lady Vikings swept doubles play and took two of three singles matches to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Junior Kassidy Thompson and sophomore Macy Wohlford, at first doubles, dispatched Hannah King and Brooke Wyatt, 6-1, 6-1. Juniors Anna Schroeder and Braxtyn Maroney won by that same score over Mary Sieberns and Emily Gwillum in the second match.

In singles action, sophomore Jessica Henline blanked Drue Gentry in the No. 1 tilt, 6-0, 6-0, while senior Katie Hunt topped Kim Hobson in the second, 6-0, 7-5, to round out Huntington North’s wins.

Senior Alyssa Hewson, at third singles, won her first set against Lorynn Hunt, 6-3, before falling short in the following two, 4-6, 1-6.

In the junior varsity contest, the Lady Vikings triumphed in all four singles matches, plus six of seven doubles tilts to win dominantly, 10-1. The team improves to 2-0.
