IWU pitching handcuffs Foresters in softball losses

Indiana Wesleyan pitching handcuffed the visiting Huntington University softball team in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 11, with IWU winning 3-0 and 2-1.

The Wildcats' Kaisey Carson threw a six-hit shutout at HU in the opener, then Carlie Weaver, with last inning help from Carson, threw a two-hitter in the nightcap as the Foresters dropped to  16-14-1 overall, 11-10 in Crossroads League play.

IWU got all three of its runs in the opener in the third inning, thanks to two hits, a Forester error, a wild pitch and three walks.

Camille Furrow was the starter and loser, going 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and three runs, two earned, with two walks. Lairen Miller went the rest of the way, yielding two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

IWU pushed across solo runs in the third and fifth innings in he nightcap. The Foresters closed the gap to one with a solo tally in the sixth. Natalie McGuire, who had both HU hits, led off with a single up the middle and eventually scored on a wild throw.

Miller started the nightcap and gave up 10 hits, but just two runs, in five innings, with three strikeouts. Furrow pitched the final inning, yielding a hit, with one strikeout and one walk.
