HU trackwomen third at own invitational

The Huntington University women’s track team captured third place at its own invitational, held Saturday, April 8.

Nicole Pennington sprinted her way to a pair of first-place finishes for the Foresters. She won the 100-meter dash in a personal-best time of :12.53, then topped the 200-meter dash in :26.53.

Jean Donaldson was another double winner for Huntington. She topped the field in javelin and hammer with throws of 115-07.00 and 140-11.75, respectively.

Michelle Kelsey also had a solid outing in field events, earning points in three different events, including high jump, first, 4-11.25; triple jump, second, 31-10.50; and long jump, third, 15-04.00.

Paige Coolman earned two fourth-place finishes by posting a throw of 117-08.25 in discus and a personal-record 111-11.00 in javelin.

Two other Foresters earned points in more than one event – Bianca Tisdale in the 800-meter run, third in 2:39.75, and the 1,500-meter run, sixth in 5:23.66, and Kelsey Graber in the same events, finishing fifth in the former event, in 2:43.81, and ninth in the latter, in 5:33.34.

Other point-getters for Huntington included Samantha McCoy in the 200 meters, second in :26.56; Rachael Smelser in the 800 meters, sixth in 2:44.29; Aspen Dirr in the 1,500 meters, fourth in 5:16.28; Marie Ditzler in the 3,000-meter run, seventh in 12:09.28; the 1,600-meter relay team, second in 4:15.82; Holly Holton in discus, eighth, 110-00.25; and Brooke Saylor in javelin, sixth, 106-03.25.

Manchester won the invitational with a register of 177. Adrian was runner-up with 157 points, followed by Huntington, 118; Defiance, 44; Grace, 42; and Saint Francis, 36.
