HU men netters short against Taylor

The Huntington University men’s tennis team came up short against visiting Taylor University, falling 4-5 on Saturday, April 8.

The Foresters, 9-8, 6-2 in Crossroads League play, mustered one win in doubles play, with Rodrigo Manzo and Giovanni Martinez beating Alex Jung and Juan Ramirez, 8-3.

Huntington’s second doubles duo, Mariano Echevarria and Jacob Shelton, was defeated by Andre Danelli and Rip Hunter, 4-8, while its third twosome, Josh Deutsch and Luke Buttermore, suffered a 2-8 setback to Stephen All and Salvado Lo Cascio.

In singles action, Manzo routed Ramirez in the first match, 6-0, 6-2, while Echevarria dispatched Danelli in the fourth, 6-2, 6-3. Brody Worl rounded out the Foresters’ solo wins with a 2-6, 7-5 (10-6) triumph over Victor Cheng in the sixth contest.

At second singles, Martinez was beaten by Lo Cascio, 4-6, 2-6. Buttermore was defeated in the third tilt by All, 2-6, 3-6, while Shelton got dispatched in the fifth matchup by Jung, 2-6, 2-6.
