Foresters take two more from USF on diamond

The Huntington University baseball team swept the University of Saint Francis, winning 4-3 and 13-2, on Saturday, April 1, at Forest Glen Park.

The sweep comes on the heels of the Foresters’ 14-6 triumph over the Cougars on Friday, March 31. With the trio of victories, Coach Mike Frame’s squad runs its win streak to seven and improves to 16-7, 8-2 in Crossroads League play.

In the opening game, Huntington crafted a 4-0 advantage through the first five innings before USF tightened things up with three runs in the sixth. Forester closer Caleb Landrum, though, didn’t allow them to do any more damage, tossing a perfect seventh frame to notch his fourth save of the season.

Mason Shinabery picked up the win for Huntington. The freshman, 2-1, pitched the first six innings, limiting USF to three hits and as many earned runs while walking one and striking out four.

The Foresters banged out seven hits in support of Shinabery. Andy Roser led the hosts with a hit and two runs batted in. Adam Roser and Will Coursen-Carr both chipped in a hit and an RBI.

Dane Hoffman took the loss for USF, 9-28-1, 2-10 in league action. The hurler threw the first five frames, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while fanning two.

Cole Gerardot and Keaton Sullivan paced the Cougar offense with a hit and a RBI apiece.

The second contest saw Huntington jump out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never look back. After the Foresters tallied three more runs in the second, USF got on the board with two scores in the third, but the hosts countered with four runs in the fourth to put their lead far out of reach.

Dalton Combs led the Foresters with three hits and four RBI. Dylan Henricks registered two hits and two RBI while Michael Crowley and Hunter Losekamp both finished with a hit and an RBI.

Connor West got the win for Huntington. The Huntington North product, 2-0, pitched the first five innings, yielding six hits and two runs, neither of which were earned, while walking two and striking out seven.

Channdlor Rivera was the loser for USF, surrendering two hits and six earned runs while issuing four walks in just a third of an inning.

Austin Mannan led the Cougars at the plate with two hits.
