HU women make quick work of Alma in spring net opener

The Huntington University women's tennis team made quick work of host Alma College in its spring season-opener on Saturday, March 11, winning 6-3.
The Foresters won six of the seven matches contested, yielding victories at sixth singles and third doubles due to be short-staffed.
First singles player Celine Rongos led the way for HU with a 6-2, 6-2 romp over Claudia Barajas. Erin Van Kampen at third singles was s tick back with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Matilda Ennis, and Anastasiia Evstifeeva topped Caroline Ross at second singles, 6-4, 6-3. Kerrie Ecker wrapped up the singles wins with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Jessica Penhale at fifth singles, 7-5, 6-1.
Rongos and Evstifeeva topped Barajas and Ross at first doubles, 8-3, and Ecker and Van Kampen at second doubles used the same score to defeat Ennis and Bernadette Garibay.
The lone on-court loss for HU on the day came at fourth singles, where Allison Smith fell to Chloe Ramsey, 2-6, 2-6.
The HU woman are at 9-3 overall.
