HU has pair of indoor track All-Americans

Huntington University athletes claimed a pair of All-America honors at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, held from Thursday, March 2, to Saturday, March 4, in Johnson City, TN.

Jake Nash, a senior, captured fifth place in high jump with a leap of 6-9.50 to net his third indoor All-America honor.

Christiana Hicks, also a senior, earned her first All-America accolade by placing sixth in triple jump. The senior entered the event seeded 20th and proceeded to easily out-jump that seeding with a leap of 38-3.50.

Brooks Gerke, also a senior, also competed at nationals and rounded things out by placing 14th in the heptathlon. The senior tallied 4,063 points across seven events in two days. He finished seventh in long jump, leaping 20-9.75, as well as pole vault, flying 13-1.50. Shot put saw him place eighth with a throw of 35-3.25. Gerke’s other finishes included 13th in the 60-meter dash, :7.52; 15th in high jump, 5-6; 16th in the 60-meter hurdles, :9.66; and 16th in the 1,000-meter run, 3:28.35.
