South Side blows out Lady Vikes

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team got blown out by visiting South Side, 61-37, on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

A poor second quarter doomed the Lady Vikings. Trailing the Lady Archers by just four points, 15-11, after the first quarter, Coach Heidi Lawson’s squad proceeded to tally only four points in the entire second period while South Side tossed in 16 to craft a commanding 31-15 lead by halftime. The Lady Archers expanded their advantage to 52-26 by the end of three frames on the way to the lopsided win.

Huntington North, 11-10, went 14 of 35 from the field for 40 percent and 6 of 8 at the free-throw line for 75 percent. The Lady Vikings struggled to get any offensive rhythm going as they turned the ball over 24 times.

Sophomore Madalyn Robrock and junior Rileigh Johnson paced Huntington North with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Jaci Jones highlighted South Side’s offensive attack with 21 points. Taniece Chapman added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Mikeba Jones added 12 points.

The two squads finished dead-even on the boards, with 26 rebounds apiece.

The Lady Archers, 12-8, converted 26 of 53 field goal attempts for 49.1 percent and 3 of 7 freebie opportunities for 42.9 percent.

Huntington North won the junior varsity tilt, 47-35.

Sophomores Kyler Hoopingarner and Erika Vinson led the Lady Vikings, 14-7, with eight points apiece.
