Lack of depth with a small squad again plagued the Huntington North High School boys' varsity swim team as it was edged by visiting South Adams, 93-92, on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

The Vikings won nine of 12 events, but only had five second-place finishes and two third-place results to give South Adams the point advantage.

Seniors Skyler Ruschhaupt and Danny Scher each took two individual events and were on two winning relay teams to take control of the scoring for Huntington North.

Ruschhaupt won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.55 - 14 seconds ahead of his South Adams opponent - and the 100-yard backstroke in 58.99. Scher won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.40 and the 100-yard freestyle in 50.97.

Senior Shaun Marion took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.00, and senior Casey Dubuc won diving with a score of 200.35. Chris Royer, another senior, completed the Vikes' individual wins by taking the 200-yard individual medley.

In relays, Marion, Ruschhaupt, Royer and Scher teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:47.61. Marion, Ruschhaupt, Scher and Dubuc later won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.38.

Recording second-place points for the Vikings were junior Phillip Zook in the 200-yard IM, Dubuc in the 50-yard freestyle, Marion in the 100-yard backstroke and junior Taylor Mortorff in the 100-yard breaststroke. The team of Zook, Mortorff, senior Corey Wilds and junior Carlos Hernandez took the silver in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
