Post 7 hosting golf outing for fireworks fund-raiser

American Legion Post 7 is hosting a golf outing at LaFontaine Golf Club, in Huntington, on Saturday, May 17.

The outing is being held to benefit the post's Fourth of July fireworks show.

The annual display runs entirely off of donations, notes Nathan Dalrymple, one of its volunteers. The post has been interested in holding a golf outing for the past few years, but didn't see it become a reality until this year when Dalrymple, who has experience organizing golf events, stepped up to lead the post's efforts on that front.

Tee time for the outing, which will consist of four-person scramble teams, is at 8 a.m., with participants encouraged to arrive an hour early.

Though pre-registration for the event has concluded, Dalrymple still encourages any interested parties to show up to the golf club on Saturday.

The fee for the outing will include the cost of lunch, which will consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts, potato salad, macaroni salad and cookies, all prepared by fireworks show volunteers.

Teams finishing first through third will be awarded cash prizes.

There will be a prize raffle, which over 50 local businesses have donated gift certificates and coupons to, states Dalrymple. The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and a betting hole.

All fund-raisers for the fireworks show are manned by the same people who conduct the actual show, explains Dalrymple, now in his seventh year as a volunteer. Their shared passion for fireworks is the driving force behind their involvement.

"The main reason that all of us help is for the fact that we all love fireworks and we love doing the show - we love figuring out what product to use, how to use it and how much to use so that the show itself is what we want to provide for the community," he says.
