Lady Vike netgirls lose to Manchester

A three-set thriller at first doubles went to host Manchester and the Huntington North High School girls' varsity tennis team fell to the Lady Squires, 2-3, on Wednesday, May 7.

Junior Ana Eckert and sophomore Emily Karst squared off against Hayleigh Collett and Karly Eichenauer in the hotly-contested match, topping their opponents in the first set, 6-3. The Manchester duo rallied, though, edging Eckert and Karst in the next two sets, 7-6, 6-4 to eke out the win.

The Lady Vikings had better luck in the second doubles match, with senior Alisha Leffler and sophomore Sarah Fryman dispatching Reilly Ruppert and Morgan McKee, 6-2, 6-2.

Junior Kylie Frederick beat Katie Peden at first singles, 6-2, 7-6, to record the other victory for Coach Blake Childs' squad, which falls to 4-5.

Senior Casey Richman's 1-6, 3-6 loss to Allison Smith at second singles and junior Emily Eherenman's 1-6, 5-7 defeat to Claire Bennett at third singles rounded out Huntington North's day.

The Lady Vikings' junior varsity squad also lost, 2-5, to drop to 6-3.

Seniors Addison Clark and Laresa Lund recorded a 4-3, 4-1 doubles triumph and freshmen Katie Hunt and Alyssa Hewson notched a hard-fought 4-3, 2-4, 4-3 win to account for the team's victories.
