Lady Vikes third at own Lime City Relays

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity track and field team captured third at the Lime City Relays, which it hosted on Saturday, May 3.

Senior Lindsey Foster won long jump with a leap of 16-09.50 and ran the anchor leg of the Lady Vikings' champion 1,600-meter relay team to help Coach Kris Teusch's squad tally 90 points in the eight-team field.

Carroll was the meet's champion with 100.5 points, followed by runner-up Homestead with 96.

Junior Stephanie McElhaney and sophomores Hannah Stoffel and Emily Bucher joined Foster in the relay win, which came in 4:20.11.

Paige Coolman rounded out Huntington North's wins by eclipsing the competition in discus. The senior made a toss of 114-05, which was 15 feet beyond the mark of the second place finisher.

Stoffel earned runner-up honors for the Lady Vikings in the 3,200-meter run, finishing in 12:00.10. Senior Maddie Klender also collected second place points with a heave of 38-09.00 in shot put, right ahead of junior Lauren Sands, who took third with a lob of 33-04.50.

Sophomore Allie Christian claimed bronze in both hurdling events, completing the 100 meters in :16.64 and the 300 in :50.09. Freshman Josie Graft finished seventh in the former event in :17.12 while senior Alexa Shoemaker attained the same place in the latter race in :52.76.

The quartet of McElhaney, junior Taryn Doering, sophomore Marissa Jamison and freshman Cadee Harmon achieved fourth in the 3,200-meter relay in 10:43.26.

Foster and Christian joined with senior Jamie Feller and sophomore Abby Ness to place fifth in the 800-meter sprint medley, crossing the line in 2:04.01.

Additional fifth place points were earned by Bucher with a bound of 15-03.50 in long jump.

Shoemaker grabbed eighth in pole vault with an effort of 7-00.00 and also teamed with Christian, Graft and Feller to earn that same place in the 400-meter relay in :55.31.

Jamison's eighth in the 1,600-meter run with a clocking of 5:49.27 completed the Lady Vikings' register.

Huntington North's 90 points was followed by Northrop's 89, Merrillville's 77, North Side's 45.5, South Side's 44, Indianapolis Arsenal Tech's 24 and Southwood's 18.
